Random number generator

Set a minimum, a maximum and how many numbers you need. Every value in the range is equally likely, and numbers are produced on your device by the browser's secure random source.

Your numbers

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Enter the minimum and maximum. Both are included in the draw.
  2. Choose how many numbers you want, up to 10,000.
  3. Tick No repeats if every number must be different, and Sort to order the list.
  4. Press Generate again for a new set, or Copy to take the list with you.

How it avoids bias

A common shortcut is to take a random number and apply the remainder after dividing by the range size. That slightly favours small values unless the range divides evenly into the generator’s output. Here the tool draws 53 random bits and throws away any draw from the incomplete final block, so every number in the range has exactly the same chance.

Example

Minimum 1, maximum 6, 10 numbers, repeats allowed: ten dice-like values such as 3, 6, 1, 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 2. With No repeats and a count of 6 you get a shuffled 1 to 6.

Tips

  • With No repeats, the count cannot exceed the number of values in the range.
  • Negative ranges work: minimum −10, maximum 10.
  • For several dice with a total, use the dice roller instead.

Frequently asked questions

Are the numbers truly random?

They come from crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure generator, not from Math.random. Out-of-range draws are thrown away and redrawn, so no value is favoured.

How large can the numbers be?

Whole numbers up to 9,007,199,254,740,991 (2^53 − 1) in either direction, as long as the range between minimum and maximum is not wider than 2^53 values. Beyond that JavaScript cannot represent every integer exactly.

How do I draw lottery-style numbers?

Set the range, for example 1 to 49, ask for 6 numbers, tick "No repeats" and "Sort". Each number can appear only once, like drawing balls from a drum.

Can I use it for a prize draw?

It is fair for casual draws among friends or a class. For anything with legal or financial stakes, follow the rules of your jurisdiction and keep a record of how the draw was done.
