Tally counter
Keep score, count people through a door, track laps or tally anything. Add as many as 20 named counters, adjust them with buttons or keys, and come back later: the counts are saved on your device.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Press + to add one and − to subtract one on a counter. Tap the name to rename it.
- Press Add counter to track something else side by side. With more than one counter, a total is shown.
- Press Reset to return a counter to zero, or Remove to delete it. At least one counter always remains.
- Use the keyboard shortcuts for hands-free counting: the outlined counter is the one they change.
How it works
Each counter is a name and a whole number. Every change is saved to your browser’s local storage straight away under the key tools.tally, and read back when the page opens.
Example
Counting visitors at two entrances: name the counters “Front door” and “Side door”, press + as people pass, and read the total underneath.
Tips
- Click or tap a counter to make it the active one for the keyboard.
- To start a new tally, press Reset on each counter or remove the extra ones.
Frequently asked questions
Are my counts saved?
Yes. Names and values are stored in your browser's local storage on this device, so they survive reloads and restarts. They are not uploaded, and clearing site data or using another browser or device starts fresh.
Can I count with the keyboard?
Yes. Press Space, plus or the Up arrow to add one, minus or the Down arrow to subtract one, and R to reset. The Left and Right arrows pick which counter is active. Shortcuts pause while you type in a name field or have a button focused.
Can the count go negative, and is there a limit?
It can go below zero. Values stop at 999,999,999 in either direction. You can have up to 20 counters on the page.
How do I count in steps bigger than one?
Each press changes the count by exactly one. For larger steps, press repeatedly or use the calculator tools for sums.
