Choosing a name

A good restaurant name is easy to say, easy to spell, and hints at the food or the mood. Check it works on a sign, on a delivery app and as a web address. Avoid a name that ties you to one dish if the menu may change.

Frequently asked questions

How are the names made?

Each name is built from word lists written for this tool and a few templates per style, chosen at random in your browser. Casual uses homely words and kinds such as Kitchen or Tavern; fine dining uses single elegant words and French-style forms; Italian-style uses words such as Trattoria and Osteria; cafe uses coffee words. No AI model is involved and nothing is sent to a server.

Why do I sometimes get fewer names than I asked for?

The tool draws distinct names and gives up after a limited number of attempts. A style with few templates can run short on large requests; press the button again or switch style.

Can I be sure a restaurant name is not already taken or trademarked?

No. The tool does not look anything up, and similar names may already exist. If you need a unique name, search for it first.

Can I use a name I like from the list?

Only if it is available. Many restaurants share similar names, and the tool cannot check registers or domains. Look up the name locally before you print a menu or a sign.
