Coin flip

Press the button to flip. The outcome is a fair 50/50 chance drawn from your browser's secure random generator, and the page keeps count of every flip until you reset.

Result

Heads: 0 · Tails: 0 · 0 flips

Last flips: no flips yet

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Press Flip the coin.
  2. The result appears as Heads or Tails, and the tally and the list of recent flips update.
  3. Press Reset counts to start a new series.

What the tally shows

With a fair coin the share of heads tends towards 50 percent as flips accumulate, but with few flips it can be far from it. After 10 flips, a 7 to 3 split is not unusual. Do not expect the numbers to even out in the short run.

Tips

  • Agree on which side means what before you flip.
  • If you feel disappointed by the result, that tells you what you wanted; that is a useful use of a coin.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the flip animation is skipped.

Frequently asked questions

Is the coin fair?

Yes. Heads and tails each have exactly a 50 percent chance, drawn from crypto.getRandomValues. Previous flips never influence the next one.

Why do I sometimes get five heads in a row?

Streaks are normal in random sequences. The chance of five heads in a row is 1 in 32, about 3 percent, and over a long series you will see them. The coin has no memory.

Are the counts saved?

Only while the page is open. Reload the page, or press Reset counts, and the tally starts again. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I use it to decide between more than two options?

Use the wheel spinner for any number of options, or the random number generator for a number in a range.
