Frequently asked questions

How are the names made?

Elf, dwarf and orc names are joined from syllables written for each style, such as soft vowels for elves and hard consonants for dwarves and orcs. Clan names and epithets come from short lists. Human heroes use a first name, a surname or a place and sometimes a title.

Can I use the names in my game or book?

The names are random combinations, so you can use them freely. A name may match something that already exists by chance; search before you commit to one for something you will publish or sell.

Why do some names look odd?

Syllables are mixed at random, so a few combinations are awkward. Press Generate again or tweak a name by hand.

Is there a limit?

You can draw up to 30 names at once, as often as you like.
