Frequently asked questions
How are the colors chosen?
Red, green and blue are each drawn independently and uniformly from 0 to 255, so each of the 16,777,216 possible 8-bit colors is equally likely. The HSL form is converted from that RGB value.
Why do random colors often look muddy?
Picking channels uniformly gives many mid-tone, low-saturation results. For a designed palette, copy a color you like into the color converter and adjust its saturation and lightness.
Can I get the same color in another format?
Switch the format buttons; the same swatches are shown as HEX, RGB or HSL. Use the color converter if you also need HSV, CMYK or OKLCH.
Are the colors saved?
No. They exist only on this page and a new draw replaces them. Copy the ones you want to keep.
