Add Page Numbers to PDF
Choose a PDF, set where and how the numbers look, and download a numbered copy. Optionally leave the first page without a number. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it
- Choose or drop a PDF.
- Pick the position, format, first number, font size and distance from the edge. Tick the box to leave the first page blank.
- Press Add numbers and download. The file is named
name-numbered.pdf.
How it works
For every page the tool measures the text with Helvetica, works out the corner position inside your margin and draws it with pdf-lib. The font size can be 4 to 72 pt and the margin 0 to 200 pt (1 pt is 1/72 inch).
Example
A 3-page file with format Page 1 of N and first number 1 gets “Page 1 of 3”, “Page 2 of 3” and “Page 3 of 3”. With Do not number the first page ticked, the cover has no number and the next pages read “Page 2 of 3” and “Page 3 of 3”.
Tips
- Keep the margin at 20 pt or more so printers do not cut the number off.
- Merge your files first with the merge PDF tool, then number the combined document so the count runs through.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Tick Do not number the first page. The second page then shows the first number plus one, so with start 1 it shows 2. To make the second page show 1, set the first number to 0.
What does Page 1 of N mean for a different start number?
N is the number shown on the last page. With 10 pages and a start number of 5, the last page reads Page 14 of 14.
Which font is used?
Helvetica, one of the standard PDF fonts, in black. The text is added on top of the existing page content.
Does it work on pages that are rotated?
Yes. Numbers are placed as the page looks in a viewer, so Bottom center is at the visual bottom even for a page stored sideways.
Why does it refuse my file?
Password-protected and damaged PDFs cannot be processed. Each file can be up to 100 MB.
