Markdown editor
Type Markdown on one side and see the formatted result on the other. Toolbar buttons add bold, headings, lists, links and code blocks around your selection. What you write is kept in this browser until you clear it.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Type in the left box, or select text and press a toolbar button.
- Check the preview on the right (below on a phone).
- Download the HTML page or the
.md file, or copy the HTML.
How it works
Each toolbar button wraps the selection or adds a prefix to every selected line. The preview is produced by the same converter as the Markdown to HTML tool, and the text is written to local storage as you type.
Example
Selecting ab and pressing Bold gives **ab** and keeps ab selected. Selecting two lines and pressing Numbered list gives 1. before the first line and 2. before the second.
Tips
- With nothing selected a button inserts a placeholder that is already selected, so you can type over it.
- Download the file if the text matters: browser storage can be cleared.
Frequently asked questions
What Markdown is supported?
Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline and fenced code, links, images, quotes, nested and task lists, tables and horizontal rules. Reference links, footnotes and raw HTML blocks are not supported.
How is this different from the Markdown to HTML converter?
The converter turns pasted text into HTML source. This editor adds a live preview, formatting buttons, automatic saving in the browser, and downloads of both a complete HTML page and the .md file.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser and the text is stored only in its local storage on this device.
Why does my HTML tag show up as text?
On purpose. Raw HTML is escaped so that pasted content cannot run script in the preview or the exported page.
