Text to PDF

Paste or type your text, pick the paper size, font size and margins, and download a PDF. Long lines wrap and the text flows onto new pages as needed. Nothing leaves your browser.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Pick A4 or Letter, the font size and the margin.
  3. Press Create PDF. The file is downloaded as text.pdf.

How it works

The text is wrapped to the width between the margins, measured with Helvetica, and set in lines 1.2 times the font size apart. When a page is full a new one begins. The result is a plain black-on-white document with selectable text.

Example

At 12 pt with 54 pt margins, an A4 page holds 50 lines, so a text of 120 wrapped lines becomes 3 pages. A Letter page holds 47 lines.

Tips

  • For text in other alphabets, print to PDF from a word processor or browser, which can embed fonts.
  • Only Helvetica is used; there is no choice of font.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it reject Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese or emoji?

The tool uses the standard Helvetica font built into every PDF reader, which only has Western European (WinAnsi) characters. Other scripts need a font file embedded in the PDF, which this tool does not do, so it shows the first unsupported character instead of making a PDF with blank boxes.

Which letters are supported?

Basic Latin letters, digits and punctuation, accented letters such as é, ü and ñ, and symbols like €, £ and curly quotes.

How are paragraphs and spaces handled?

Each line break in your text starts a new line, blank lines are kept, and long lines wrap at word boundaries. A tab becomes four spaces.

What are the margins in?

Points; 72 points make one inch. The default of 54 points is 0.75 inch (about 19 mm), and you can set 10 to 150.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and changed by your browser using the pdf-lib library; nothing is sent to a server.
