How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a PDF.
  2. Type the text and pick Center or Tiled. Adjust size, opacity, angle and color.
  3. Choose All pages or Selected pages with a range such as 1,3-5, then press Add watermark and download. The file is named name-watermarked.pdf.

How it works

The text is drawn on each chosen page with pdf-lib in Helvetica Bold at the opacity you set, rotated around its own center. For tiled mode the copies are spaced one and a half text widths apart across and four font sizes down. Pages that are stored rotated are handled so the watermark reads the right way up in a viewer.

Example

A letter-size draft with text DRAFT, size 60, opacity 30% and angle 45 gets a light grey diagonal word across the middle of each page.

Tips

  • Lower the opacity to 15 to 30 percent so the page text underneath stays readable.
  • Long text needs a smaller size; the watermark is not wrapped and can run off the page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a non-Latin alphabet, such as Cyrillic or Chinese?

Not in this tool. It draws with the standard Helvetica font, which covers Western European (WinAnsi) characters only. If you type anything else the tool names the character and stops instead of producing a broken file.

What is the difference between Center and Tiled?

Center places one large copy in the middle of each page. Tiled repeats the text in a grid that covers the page, which is harder to crop out.

Can the watermark be removed afterwards?

It is drawn as ordinary page content, so it cannot be switched off like a layer, but someone with a PDF editor could still cover or edit it. It discourages reuse, it is not protection.

What angle should I use?

Positive angles turn the text counterclockwise. 45 is the usual diagonal; 0 keeps it horizontal.

Why does it refuse my file?

Password-protected and damaged PDFs cannot be processed. Each file can be up to 100 MB.
