PDF Metadata Editor
Choose a PDF to see its document properties, change any of them and save a new copy. Clear the fields to remove personal details. The file stays in your browser.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose or drop a PDF; its current properties fill the form.
- Edit the fields, or press Clear all fields to empty everything.
- Press Save and download. The file is named
name-edited.pdf.
How it works
The tool opens the document with pdf-lib without letting the library touch the properties, writes your values into the document information dictionary and saves. The pages are not changed. A cleared date is deleted from the file; cleared text fields are saved as empty.
Example
A report exported from a word processor shows the title “Document1” and your name as author. Set the title to “Annual Report 2025”, leave the author or clear it, and save.
Tips
- Search results and browser tabs often show the PDF title, so a clear title helps.
- Metadata in the newer XMP format, which some programs also write, is not shown or changed here.
Frequently asked questions
What is PDF metadata?
Properties stored in the file beside the pages: title, author, subject, keywords, the programs that created it, and creation and modification dates. Viewers show them in the Document Properties dialog and search engines may use the title.
Can I remove my name from a PDF?
You can clear the author, creator and producer fields here. Other places can still hold personal data, such as text on the pages, so check the content as well.
Does saving change the modified date?
Not by itself. The tool writes the dates exactly as shown in the form, so edit or clear the Modified field if you want it to change.
Which time zone do the dates use?
Your browser local time. They are saved in the file as a point in time, so another viewer will show them in its own zone.
Why does it refuse my file?
Password-protected and damaged PDFs cannot be processed. Each file can be up to 100 MB.
