PDF N-up Layout
Choose how many pages go on each sheet and the sheet size, and the tool arranges your pages left to right, top to bottom into a new PDF. Handy for handouts and saving paper.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose or drop a PDF.
- Pick 2, 4, 6 or 9 pages per sheet, the sheet size and orientation.
- Adjust margin and gap, and tick the border box if you want frames.
- Press Make sheets and download. The file is named
name-4-up.pdf.
How it works
The grid is 2 columns for 2 per sheet in landscape, 2 × 2 for 4, 3 × 2 for 6 and 3 × 3 for 9 (turned around on portrait sheets where it helps the cells). Source pages are embedded as they are, so text stays text and the file does not turn into pictures.
Example
A 10-page file at 4 per sheet gives 3 sheets: pages 1–4, pages 5–8 and pages 9–10 with two empty spots.
Tips
- For double-sided handouts print the result with the printer’s two-sided option.
- Text on 9-up sheets gets small; try 6-up for slides with text.
Frequently asked questions
In what order are the pages placed?
Left to right, then top to bottom, in the order of the source file. The last sheet may have empty spots.
Which orientation suits 2 per sheet?
Landscape puts two portrait pages side by side. Portrait stacks them, which makes each page small. For 4, 6 and 9 portrait sheets are the usual choice.
Are pages scaled?
Yes. Each page is scaled to fit its cell and centred, keeping its proportions, so pages of different sizes can be mixed.
What do the margin and gap values mean?
They are in points, where 72 points make one inch (about 0.35 mm each). The margin is at the sheet edge and the gap is between cells.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser. Password-protected files cannot be opened, and each file can be up to 100 MB.
