Sign PDF
Open a PDF, draw your signature with a finger, mouse or pen, or type it, click the page preview where it should go and download the signed file. This adds a picture of your signature; it is not a cryptographic digital signature. Everything happens in your browser.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF.
- Draw your signature in the box, or switch to Type and write your name in one of three styles. Pick the ink color.
- Choose the page, then click the page preview where the signature should appear. The dashed frame shows the exact place; use the width and position sliders to fine-tune.
- Press Sign and download.
How it works
The drawing is trimmed to the ink and kept as a transparent PNG. When you save, the PNG is embedded in the PDF and drawn onto the chosen page (or every page) at the place you clicked, kept inside the page. Pages with their own rotation are handled by converting the position from the page as displayed to the page’s internal coordinates. The page preview is rendered by the same engine that browsers use for PDFs.
Worked example
On a 600 × 800 pt page, clicking the middle with a width of 30 % and a signature that is twice as wide as tall places a 180 × 90 pt picture with its lower-left corner at 210, 355 points.
Tips
- Draw large and slowly; the signature is trimmed and scaled to the width you set.
- Use a mouse or a pen for neater lines than a finger.
- Keep the unsigned original in case you need to change the document.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a legally valid digital signature?
It is a visual (image) signature. It is widely accepted for informal agreements, but it is not a cryptographic digital signature: it carries no certificate and cannot show whether the document was changed afterwards. For contracts that require a qualified or certificate-based signature, use a signing service that issues one.
Is my signature or document uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and written by code that runs in your browser, and the signature exists only on your screen. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can the signature be removed from the signed PDF?
The signature is added as a picture on the page, so someone with a PDF editor can remove or move it. If you need to prevent changes, use a certificate-based signature or ask the recipient to keep the original.
Does it work on pages that are rotated or of different sizes?
Yes. The position is stored as a fraction of the page as it is displayed, and rotated pages are handled, so with Put it on every page the signature lands in the same relative spot on each page.
Why does my typed signature look different on another device?
The typed styles use fonts that are installed on your device. If a handwritten font is missing, a similar built-in style is used. The drawn signature always looks as you drew it.
