Add Text to PDF
Type your text, pick where it goes on the page and which pages get it, then download the new PDF. Good for notes, labels, reference numbers and short stamps.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose or drop a PDF.
- Type the text, choose a font, size and colour.
- Pick a place, or Exact position for your own coordinates, and optionally the pages.
- Press Add text and download.
How it works
The text is drawn on each chosen page with pdf-lib, using one of the standard fonts that every PDF reader has, so nothing is embedded. For the preset places the text block is aligned to the page margin you set. Lines of a multi-line text are spaced at 1.2 times the font size.
Example
Text “Draft v2”, Courier, 14 pt, bottom right with a 36 pt margin, pages 1-2: the words appear in the lower right corner of the first two pages, 0.5 inch from the edges.
Tips
- Pick a dark colour for light pages and the reverse for dark backgrounds.
- To number pages or add a date, use the header and footer tool.
Frequently asked questions
Which characters can I use?
The tool uses the three standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times and Courier), which cover Latin letters with accents, digits and common punctuation. Other scripts, such as Cyrillic, Greek or Chinese, are not available, and the tool says which character it cannot draw.
How do I place text exactly?
Choose Exact position and enter the distance from the left and bottom edges in points. 72 points are one inch. The number you enter is where the first line starts, on the baseline.
Can I put the text on some pages only?
Yes. Type the pages, for example 1-3,5, in the Pages box. Leave it empty for all pages.
Does it work with rotated pages?
Yes. The position is read as it appears on screen, and the text is turned to match a page that is stored rotated.
Can I edit the text that already exists in the PDF?
No. This tool only adds new text on top of the page. The existing content is not changed.
