Online notepad
Start typing and your note is saved in this browser a moment later. Come back on the same device and browser and it is still there. Nothing is sent to a server.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Type or paste into the box. The note is saved shortly after you stop typing.
- Use Download .txt to keep a file, or Copy to put it on the clipboard.
- Clear note asks for a second press before erasing.
How it works
The text is written to local storage after a 300 ms pause. When the page opens it reads the note back. Words are runs of characters between spaces, and lines are counted by line breaks.
Example
“Hi there”, an empty line and “bye” make 3 words, 13 characters and 3 lines. A note starting with “Shopping: milk!” downloads as Shopping-milk.txt.
Tips
- Keep a copy of long or important notes as a file.
- Notes are not shared between browsers, so use Copy to move text to another device.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my note stored?
In your browser's local storage, on this device. It is not uploaded, so nobody else can read it, and it also means other devices and browsers do not see it.
Can I lose my note?
Yes. Clearing site data, using a private window or switching browsers hides it. Download a .txt copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
How is the downloaded file named?
From the first line of the note: letters and numbers are kept and other characters become dashes, up to 40 characters. An empty first line gives note.txt.
Is there a size limit?
The note is limited to 200,000 characters, and browsers keep local storage to a few megabytes per site.
